Signing Compliance with We Card

With the New Year closing in, many retailers across the country will refresh their in-store signage as it relates to the sale of tobacco. This undertaking comes following new guidance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to prevent tobacco and e-vapor sales to minors. The movement is also in reaction to a handful of states and hundreds of municipalities changing laws to raise the legal tobacco-purchasing age to 21.

At The BARS Program, we recommend enlisting We Card for the most up-to-date signage. The We Card Program is a national non-profit organization representing a unified effort among trade associations, retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers to prevent underage tobacco, e-vapor and other age-restricted product sales. Retailers can order 2019 training and education We Card Kits, as well as Age-of-Purchase Calendars – a daily reminder age calculation tool. New and old employees alike will benefit from these materials, especially when they’re used in conjunction with The BARS Program’s compliance training platform.

So, while the holidays are ramping up, remember to add 2019-compliant signage from We Card to your end of year to-do list. And while you’re at it, it’s also a good idea to check with your local licensing authority for other mandated signage that needs to be displayed in your stores. Contact The BARS Program if you have questions and/or if you need assistance in enforcing a compliance program in the year ahead. You can reach us at www.barsprogram.com/contact or 1-877-540-5500.
