Retail & Restaurant -- BARS works with any Point-of-Sale

When you partner with The BARS Program, you’re proactively ensuring your brand and employees have what it takes to successfully triumph against a government-backed sting operation. The BARS Program’s compliance training platform includes twice monthly visits from our Checkers, who enact real-time purchasing scenarios with your clerks, bartenders and wait staff. The purpose of these mock stings is to monitor employees and their level of compliance with lawful selling practices. Full compliance is awarded a Green Card, and non-compliance a Red Card.

BARS Visit Types

During a Basic Visit, BARS Program Checker requests or presents an item for purchase at the register. If the clerk asks for identification, the Checker asks for their name and presents a Green Card. If the clerk fails to ask for identification, s/her is presented with a Red Card while the Checker explains affiliation with The BARS Program and asks for the store manager’s name.

For a Verify Visit, a BARS Program Checker requests or presents an item for purchase at the register, the clerk scans the item’s barcode and requests identification. The Checker hands over identification and the clerk scans and returns it. In return for following the proper steps, the clerk is presented with a Green Card. Should the clerk neglect to ask for and scan the ID, s/he is given a Red Card and the Checker promptly asks to speak with the manager on duty.

When a 2-in-1 Visit is conducted, a BARS Program Checker requests or presents an item for purchase at the register, the clerk scans the item’s barcode and requests identification. The Checker hands over identification and the clerk scans and returns it; in return, the Checker presents the clerk with a Green Card while requesting the clerk’s name. Should the clerk neglect to ask for and scan the ID, s/he is given a Red Card and the clerk’s name is requested.

In the dining area of a Restaurant, a BARS Program Checker places his/her alcohol order with a member of the restaurant’s wait staff. The waiter requests identification and the Checker discloses his/her affiliation with The BARS Program and requests to speak with the manager on duty to pass along the waiter’s Green Card.

In a Bar, a BARS Program Checker places his/her alcohol order. If the bartender fails to ask for identification, the Checker promptly cancels the order and discloses his/her affiliation with The BARS Program; the Checker then requests to speak with the manager to pass along the bartender’s Red Card. The Checker will also request both the manager and bartender’s names.
